What Is EPFO ?

EPFO stands for Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation and is a non-constitutional body that promotes employees to save funds for retirement and this organisation is governed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India & was launched in 1951. EPF or Employees’ Provident Fund is a Scheme introduced for a bright & better future for the employees. Under the EPF Scheme, a small amount of your employee’s wages is deducted & contributed to the EPF account. Being an employer, you have to match the same amount put in the employee & deposit in the whole amount in the EPF account. Further, it is linked to the ESIC Scheme.

EPF Registration is compulsory for all businesses or organisations that employ 20 or more people and the employees with salary less than Rs. 15000 per month have to mandatorily become members of the EPF.

All the employees will be eligible for a Provident Fund from the beginning of their employment & the responsibility of deduction and the payment of Provident Fund lies with the employer. The employee’s PF contribution is 12%, which is deducted from the employee’s basic salary. The employer also contributes an amount equal to 12% of the basic salary of an employee.

List of documents required for Registration

PAN Card of the Company/Firm/Proprietor’s
Registration Proof such as

  • Certificate of incorporation, in case of company
  • Partnership deed, in case of partnership firm
  • Factory License, if the establishment is a factory
  • MSME registration certificate, if the establishment is an MSME
  • Startup India registration certificate If the establishment is registered under Startup India

 

PAN Card of the Director/Partner
Address Proof such as the water bill or electricity bill or telephone bill of the registered office (not older than 2 months)
Hired/ Rented or Leased Agreement If there is any
Address Proof of the Director/Partner/Proprietor (e.g. Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Passport, etc.)
Email id and Mobile number of the Director/Partner/Proprietor
Bank Account Details of the Company/Firm/Proprietor (Cancelled Cheque or Bank Statement)
List of employees with their details:

  • Name
  • Father’s/Husband name
  • Date of appointment
  • Date of birth
  • Mobile number
  • Postal address
  • Grade
  • Salary
  • Aadhar card and PAN card
  • Bank A/c number with IFSC code
